Narrative Hazard Oversight Directorate

Document Integrity & Access Notice

Narrative Exposure Warning

A Doctrine is, by definition, a narrative. This document therefore cannot be considered exempt from the phenomena it describes. The Directorate acknowledges the inherent contradiction: to codify principles against story-logic is to create a story about resisting stories.

Personnel are reminded that any perceived anomalies within this text- including but not limited to: words appearing to scramble, shift, or distort; text that seems to "want" to be read in a particular order; passages that feel unusually resonant or memorable- must be reported to your immediate supervisor without delay. Do not discuss observations with colleagues. Do not re-read affected sections "to make sure."

If you are experiencing document corruption, the document is not the only thing being corrupted.

Access Restriction

This Doctrine document is NOT AUTHORIZED for viewing in its entirety by any personnel below the rank of Deputy Director.

Partial access may be granted on a need-to-know basis for specific sections relevant to assigned duties. Attempts to circumvent this restriction—whether through unauthorized access, social engineering, document reconstruction, or any other means—will result in immediate insertion into an inescapable narrative that does not end well for the violator.

This is not a metaphor. This is not a threat. This is a containment measure.

Table of Contents

Purpose and Scope

[DOC-001]
This document defines the operational doctrine of the Narrative Hazard Oversight Directorate. It applies to all personnel with active NAR-CLEAR authorization and to all Foundation units that interact with Narrative-class anomalies under NHOD advisory or command.
Standard containment protocol assumes that threats are expressed through physical, memetic, or informational vectors. NHOD Doctrine exists for cases where the primary vector is neither physical nor conceptual but structural. In these cases, reality is forced to arrange itself into patterns that resemble stories.
This Doctrine sets out how the Foundation is to understand, classify, and confront those patterns. It does not exist to make personnel comfortable. It exists to keep them alive long enough to do their work, and to keep them from becoming interesting to the anomalies that want them dead or transformed in aesthetically satisfying ways.

Foundational Principles

[DOC-002]
NHOD operations proceed from the following axioms. These are not suggestions.

The story is the vector.

In Narrative-class events, the threat is not only what happens but how it happens. Order, framing, timing, and perceived meaning are all active components of the hazard.

Narrative satisfaction is a risk factor.

The more satisfying a sequence of events feels, the more likely it is that narrative causality rather than probability is in control. A perfect ending is a containment failure by default.

Observation is participation.

To watch, record, retell, or dwell on Narrative-class incidents is to add energy to the pattern. Documentation is necessary but must be controlled. Anecdotes are banned. War stories are treated as contamination.

Roles are liabilities.

Archetypal positions such as hero, villain, mentor, martyr, or comic relief are not metaphors in NHOD work. They are hooks. Personnel must avoid self-assigning or being assigned to such roles whenever possible.

Coincidence is presumptively hostile.

In a narrative hotspot, convenient coincidences, revealing timing, or thematically appropriate events are not reassuring. They are warnings that causality has been subordinated to structure.

Anti-climax is success.

Outcomes that feel anticlimactic, unresolved, or wrong from a story perspective are often the safest ones. Boring victories are preferred. Messy stalemates are acceptable. Memorable last stands are not.

No one is the main character.

NHOD policy rejects any framing in which a single individual is cast, explicitly or implicitly, as the central figure in a Narrative-class operation. The organization commits, in principle and procedure, to the erasure of protagonists.

Doctrine is not immune.

The existence of this Doctrine page is itself a narrative object. Personnel are required to treat it as a tool, not as lore. Familiarity is functional. Fascination is hazardous.

Taxonomy of Narrative Hazards

[DOC-003]
NHOD recognizes the following primary categories. Many anomalies manifest across multiple categories.

Structural Imposition Objects

Anomalies that impose a particular story form on localized reality. Subtypes include:
  • Tragedy engines
  • Redemption loops
  • Eternal pilots- scenarios that never move past introduction
  • Bottled finales
Typical signatures:
Events cluster around binary choices.
All options produce meaningfully poetic outcomes.
Attempts to opt out of the situation are met with escalating coincidence.

Episodic Environments

Locations in which events arrange themselves into discrete episodes with recurring patterns.
Common traits:
Apparent resets in status quo following major incidents, with only subtle cumulative change.
Regular rhythm in incident timing that maps to known broadcast or publication schedules.
Repeated reappearance of victims or entities that function as “guest stars,” each with unique but contained arcs.
Personnel assigned to these environments are at significant risk of being reclassified from observers to recurring cast. Survival does not guarantee escape. It often guarantees a sequel.

Character Fixation Entities

Entities that attach themselves to individuals and begin reshaping their lives into recognizable arcs.
Behaviors include:
Engineering repeated loss to create tragic depth for a subject.
Forcing convergence of antagonists and subjects to produce climaxes.
Intervention in injuries and survivals to maintain a pattern of plot armor followed by heavy collateral damage.
These entities do not kill at random. They wait until it will serve the story most.

Serialized Catastrophes

Patterned crises that behave as multi-part arcs rather than discrete incidents.
Indicators:
Clear escalation in scope and stakes over time.
Recurring themes in casualty selection or damage location.
Mid-season shocks such as the sudden removal of a key individual that recalibrates the threat dynamic.

Meta-Narrative Phenomena

Anomalies that are aware of, or can manipulate, their own representation.
They may:
Attempt to rewrite containment procedures through anomalous text.
React to how they are described in reports, becoming stronger or weaker based on framing.
Induce compulsive documentation in witnesses.

Story Memes and Infohazard Narratives

Narratives that spread and strengthen through retelling.
Traits:
Compulsion to share the story, especially “the best parts.”
Narrative elements that adjust themselves to fit new tellers.
Increased distortion and power with each retelling rather than degradation.

Narrative Risk Indicators

[DOC-004]
The following are recognized as early warning signs. One indicator alone does not confirm a narrative hazard, but three or more in combination require NHOD consultation.

Recurrent symbolism

Anomalous repetition of specific motifs across incidents, such as recurring locations, objects, phrases, or injuries.

Thematic casualty patterns

Victims selected not for tactical advantage but for symbolic impact. For example, deaths that mirror an earlier failure, or that close a personal arc.

Presentiment and foreshadowing

Personnel reporting “bad feelings,” prophetic jokes, or casual remarks that later prove ironically apt.

Dramatic timing

Events that “wait” for the worst possible moment: just after reconciliation, just before retirement, immediately following a promise.

Compulsive framing

Witnesses describing incidents in story language rather than operational terms: “that was his moment,” “she had to go out like that,” “this is where it all changes.”

Persistent near-misses

One individual or team repeatedly survives by margins that defy probability, each time at increased cost to others.

Information clustering

Unrelated reports, rumors, or dreams all aligning around the same narrative pattern.

Any commander who notes these indicators and proceeds as if they are coincidence is in violation of NHOD Doctrine.

Engagement Doctrine

[DOC-005]
NHOD Doctrine divides engagement with narrative hazards into three phases.

Phase 1: Pre-Contact

Objectives:
Minimize narrative potential.
Avoid pre-loading the situation with emotional or symbolic charge.
Protocols:
Do not refer to the upcoming operation as “the last one,” “the big one,” or “finally fixing this.”
Explicitly forbid farewell speeches, personal promises, or “one last chance” arrangements.
Structure teams for redundancy, not drama. Avoid symmetrical pairings or thematically charged combinations such as estranged partners, mentor and protégé, or rivals forced to cooperate.
Staff briefings are clinical. The operation is presented as a task, not a test.

Phase 2: Active Incident

Objectives:
Resist narrative escalation.
Break emerging story structures before they solidify.
Protocols:
Enforce small tactical decisions over sweeping gestures.
Personnel who begin making symbolic moves- such as volunteering alone, returning to burning structures for personal items, or choosing risk for emotional closure- are to be removed or overruled.
Command must monitor language in real time. Statements that sound like foreshadowing must be interrupted and redirected.
If a situation begins to take on a “set piece” quality, NHOD units introduce noise: change locations, swap personnel, insert delays or procedural interludes that break pacing.

Phase 3: Post-Incident

Objectives:
Prevent cementing of narrative into legend.
Collapse the arc into data.
Protocols:
Debriefs focus on chain of events, not personal meaning.
Avoid replaying and dramatizing key moments. No reenactments, no “favorite stories,” no indulgent recounting.
Award citations in aggregate where possible. Avoid singling out individuals as lone heroes.
Rapidly transition personnel to routine tasks that dissolve heightened emotional frames.

Behavioral Protocols for Personnel

[DOC-006]
Personnel operating under NHOD Doctrine must adhere to the following behavioral standards.

Language discipline

  • Avoid dramatic labels such as “hero,” “villain,” “chosen one,” or “nemesis.”
  • Avoid statements that place events into act structure, such as “this is just the beginning,” “now for the final act.”
  • Avoid self-descriptions that assign roles, such as “I am the one who always takes the hit.”

Emotional containment

Emotional reactions are expected. Emotional performances are not. Personnel must not indulge in speeches, declarations, or other behavior that centers them in the narrative.

Refusal of destiny language

Any talk of “fate,” “destiny,” “things meant to be,” or events “having to happen” is banned in operational contexts. Such language is treated as a possible symptom of narrative entanglement.

Anti-spotlight behavior

Individuals with high protagonist weight are expected to avoid attention where possible. They deflect praise, share credit, and discourage others from retelling their exploits.

Reporting of narrative impulses

Personnel who notice themselves wanting to say something “because it sounds right,” or to do something “because it feels like the way this should go,” must treat that impulse as suspect and report it in debrief.

Documentation Doctrine

[DOC-007]
In NHOD jurisdiction, how an event is written is part of containment.

Clinical, not cinematic

Reports avoid dramatic phrasing, rhetorical build-up, or narrative-style hooks. Use neutral sequence descriptions. Do not include sensory detail unless operationally relevant.

No narrative titles

Internal documents must not be given names that frame them as stories. Avoid labels such as “Fall of Site X” or “Last Stand at Y.” Use functional identifiers.

Minimal quotes

Direct quotes are dangerous because they preserve rhythm and emotional impact. Use paraphrase except where exact wording is necessary for analysis.

Fragmented history

In some cases, NHOD may deliberately split a single event into multiple reports or merge several into one to prevent clean story arcs from taking shape in the archive.

Canon control

The Directorate reserves authority to designate certain accounts as non-canonical for internal purposes. These are quarantined, amnesticized, or rewritten as needed.

Operational Design Principles

[DOC-008]
NHOD advises that all operations in narrative hotspots adhere to the following design principles.

Redundancy over elegance

A messy plan that does not lend itself to a neat summary is safer than a simple one that makes a clean story.

Asymmetry over symmetry

Avoid mirrored teams, balanced pairings, or numerological patterns that appeal to story logic.

Distributed risk

No single individual should bear all critical duties. If the story can focus on one person as “the one who must succeed,” it will.

Avoid personal stakes when possible

Do not assign personnel whose personal history lines up thematically with the anomaly if alternatives exist.

No finales

Operations are never framed as “the final word.” Practically, there may be last operations. Narratively, there must not be.

Role and Identity Management

[DOC-009]
NHOD treats personnel identity as a key containment surface.

Role flattening

Titles and commendations are deliberately plain. Nicknames are discouraged, particularly those referencing fictional characters or archetypes.

Rotation out of arcs

Personnel whose careers show clear narrative structuring are rotated away from narrative exposures. If that fails, amnestic or counter-narrative interventions are applied.

Denial of martyrdom

Suicidal heroics are forcibly prevented where possible. Where not possible, documentation will not record such acts in glorified form.

Leadership anonymization

Senior roles are defined by designation rather than individual presence. The system is visible. The people are not.

Counter-Narrative Measures

[DOC-010]
NHOD uses a combination of psychological, procedural, and informational tools to disrupt narrative patterns.

Cognitive techniques

Personnel are trained in internal reframing. They treat events as mechanical rather than meaningful, actively rejecting the temptation to read their lives as stories.

Behavioral scripts

Script Doctors provide pre-planned responses for common narrative triggers. For example, when given a chance at a clean farewell, personnel are trained to redirect or trivialize the interaction.

Amnestic application

Memory removal is considered an acceptable strategy to prevent final arcs from forming. It is preferable to erase the perfect ending from everyone involved rather than allow it to stand.

Anti-myth campaigns

When stories about Narrative-class operations begin to spread, NHOD quietly introduces misinformation, dull retellings, or contradictory accounts.

Ethics in Narrative Containment

[DOC-011]
NHOD Doctrine recognizes that controlling story structure can veer into controlling people.

No deliberate casting as offering

Supervisors are forbidden from placing personnel in harm specifically as symbolic sacrifices to appease a narrative hazard. Personnel may be risked, but not staged.

No manufactured tragedies as currency

Creating a sacrificial event for the explicit purpose of feeding a story is prohibited, even when containment pressure is extreme.

Informed risk where possible

When personnel are knowingly exposed to Narrative-class risks, the nature of those risks must be explained to the degree operational security allows.

Post-entanglement care

Survivors of narrative entanglement are entitled to debriefing and therapeutic support designed to rebuild their sense of self outside imposed roles.

Interfacing with Non-NHOD Units

[DOC-012]Access Restricted
When NHOD interacts with standard Foundation units, the following policies apply.

Doctrine primacy

In cases of conflict between standard operational instincts- including heroism and morale-boosting action- and NHOD Doctrine, NHOD Doctrine overrides. Command authority may be temporarily reassigned to NHOD for the duration of Narrative-class incidents.

Educational responsibility

NHOD personnel should provide clear, non-theatrical explanations for requested behavioral changes. The objective is not obedience by mystique but compliance by necessity. However, lack of understanding by non-NHOD units is not grounds to delay or weaken counter-narrative measures.

Containment by calculated collateral

While unnecessary collateral damage to non-NHOD personnel is preferred, the prevention of a Narrative-class containment breach takes absolute priority.
When forced to choose between preserving individual lives and preventing the completion of a hostile story structure, NHOD doctrine mandates the protection of containment integrity by any means necessary.
Non-NHOD units may be deployed, repositioned, or abandoned in service to narrative disruption and arc collapse. Survivors who have acquired significant narrative entanglement may be subject to amnestic treatment, indefinite reassignment, or termination where required to prevent the consolidation of a story frame.
There is no scenario in which Foundation personnel are permitted to secure a heroic outcome for themselves at the expense of allowing a narrative anomaly to complete its preferred arc.

Training and Indoctrination

[DOC-013]
All NAR-CLEAR personnel receive structured instruction in narrative containment.

Narrative literacy without glamorization

Training materials present narrative structures clinically, not romantically. Tropes are identified as tools of the enemy, not as storytelling craft.

Case studies stripped of flair

Historical incidents are taught with focus on decision points, not drama. Any incident that has become an internal “legend” is treated as a failure.

Self-monitoring procedures

Personnel learn to audit their own language and impulses for story contamination. They are taught how to report such contamination without shame or delay.

Periodic reassessment

Archetype affinity and narrative susceptibility are tracked over time. Doctrine compliance is checked not only in what personnel do, but in how they talk about what they do.

Incident Levels and Response Matrices

[DOC-014]
NHOD categorizes narrative incidents on a spectrum:
N-0
No detectable narrative pattern. Standard containment.
N-1
Weak narrative signatures. Advisory monitoring.
N-2
Clear localized narrative behavior. NHOD involvement recommended.
N-3
Strong narrative structure with identifiable acts and arcs. NHOD command strongly advised.
N-4
Reality overtly reorganized around story logic. Full NHOD control required.
N-5
Global or cross-Site narrative event in progress. O5 involvement with NHOD as lead advisory body.
For each level, a predefined response matrix dictates who may speak to whom, what language may be used, what documentation routes are allowed, and which countermeasures have priority. Deviation from the matrix must be justified in writing and reviewed for narrative contamination.

Research Doctrine

[DOC-015]
Research into narrative hazards is permitted under tightly constrained conditions.

No aesthetic experiments

Researchers are forbidden from exploring “what happens if” they lean into the story for curiosity alone. All experiments must be aimed at disruption, mitigation, or reliable modeling.

Simulation first

Narrative modeling is preferable to live testing. Synthetic scenarios are used wherever possible to avoid giving anomalies new material.

Strict stop conditions

Every research activity includes pre-agreed termination criteria that cannot be waived for the sake of a “better conclusion” or “clearer arc.”

Red team narrative audits

Independent NHOD staff review research proposals for unintended story arcs before approval. Any project that reads like a plot outline is returned or terminated.

Public Information and Leak Management

[DOC-016]
Narrative hazards that leak into civilian awareness pose special risks.

Containment by banality

Whenever possible, leaked stories are diluted by overexposure, parody, or trivialization rather than outright suppression. A joke is often less dangerous than a forbidden legend.

Avoid villainizing the anomaly

Excess focus on a narrative hazard as a “grand evil” can grant it thematic power. Public narratives should encourage confusion, fatigue, or dismissal- not fear and admiration.

Targeted amnestic use

Amnestics are applied when stories become too tidy or inspirational, particularly when they begin to spawn cultural tropes.

Failure Modes and Lessons

[DOC-017]
NHOD catalogues failures in terms of narrative victories.
A failure is recorded when:
An individual dies in a way that completes their arc.
A site event becomes known internally as “The Something” with a capital letter, and cannot be made mundane again.
A report is circulated unofficially because it is “such a good story.”
Command decisions are influenced by what would “feel right” rather than what will contain the anomaly.
Each such failure results in doctrine review and, if necessary, new procedural constraints. Personnel whose actions contributed to the failure may be reassigned, amnesticized, or removed from narrative exposure indefinitely.

Closing Statement

[DOC-018]
NHOD Doctrine is not about stripping meaning from the lives of Foundation personnel. It is about preventing external forces from assigning that meaning in ways that destroy them and strengthen the things we are sworn to contain.
The Foundation has always lost people. Narrative hazards are distinguished by how cleanly they take them, how gracefully they arrange the bodies, how compelling they make the loss. NHOD exists to make our failures ugly and unsatisfying to anything that might be watching.
Whenever possible, our dead are not remembered as heroes in some anomaly’s preferred version of events. They are remembered as individuals who were doing a job, in a world that does not need any more stories written in their blood.
Final Instructions for the Director of NHODO5 EYES ONLY // SERIALIZED ACCESS

For Director of Narrative Hazard Oversight Only

The following sections are to be stored on a physically and logically isolated channel keyed to the current Director only. If you are not the sitting Director of Narrative Hazard Oversight, you are in violation of Overwatch Command directive. Stop reading. Now. Turn yourself in, save us the time it will take to find you- and we WILL find you.
If you are the Director, you will read this once. You will remember it. You will not quote it. You will not summarize it aloud. You will not allude to it in any medium that can be replayed.

O5 Directive: Retained Narrative Assets

You have been taught correctly that Narrative-class anomalies are to be contained, disrupted, and starved. You have been taught that no story shape is to be allowed to complete if it can be broken instead. You have signed your name under Doctrine that calls narrative satisfaction a failure condition. All of that stands.

Now you will learn the part that is not in Doctrine.

Some Narrative-class anomalies cannot be neutralized without consequences that are worse than their continued existence. This is not an abstract statement. It is written into the history of this planet and several prior versions of it. I have read those ledgers. You have not.

There are patterns that hold worse patterns in place. There are engines that burn probability in ways we can steer. There are chains of disaster that we can predict only because something malignant insists on playing them out in a recognizable form. In certain situations, under your direct and personal authority, those same malign structures can be tilted so that the break in the pattern favors the Foundation: a catastrophe that would have landed on us lands elsewhere, a survival that should have been impossible is forced to resolve in our favor, an enemy narrative is interrupted by the sudden appearance of a different, louder story. They do not help us, we compel them to collide with something we choose.

These are not contained in the sense your Directorate uses the word. They are maintained. They are active in the world under structures that resemble truces more than cells. They are the emergency tools you will reach for when every clean option has failed and you decide that you would rather let one story feed than let all the others run free. When you use them, you are not solving a problem, you are choosing which story gets to eat you last and which moment of undeserved grace you are willing to purchase with everything it will cost somewhere else.

They are catalogued under a sealed cluster designated NAR-K-Omega. Access is serialized. There is never more than one complete reader at a time.

No member of NHOD below you holds more than a shard of the picture. Individual researchers and analysts see only the object-level files assigned to their division. Continuity staff see shapes and recurrences with all identifiers stripped. Field command sees symptoms and response protocols, never the underlying leverage conditions. No one in your Directorate can reconstruct NAR-K-Omega as a whole from what they know.

No member of the Ethics Committee has full knowledge of NAR-K-Omega. They see casualty numbers, aggregate risk reports, and heavily sanitized moral impact summaries. They do not see the names, the bindings, the negotiated constraints, or the ways these anomalies can be used. They are allowed to review the cost. They are not allowed to know the tools.

The Council does not hold the complete pattern. We hold the barest of fragments, mutually insulated, by design.

We have chosen not to let thirteen minds become a single Narrative Locus for these anomalies. We have chosen you instead.

You will not open the NAR-K-Omega case cluster because you are curious. If curiosity is your motive, you are already unfit and your tenure will be short. You will open it only when you feel genuine need, and you will recognize the feeling.

It will come when every model breaks, when every standard containment attempt collapses into a story you can see forming around you, and you hear yourself, in the privacy of your own skull, thinking that you need a miracle. That word is your warning. Miracles are stories with better publicists.

At that point you will remember that there is a partition you have never opened. You will understand that you are standing at a fork: lose cleanly, or win by putting your hands on the leashes of things that understand narrative better than you understand yourself.

Understand this with absolute clarity.

Once you open those files, you become the Narrative Locus for NAR-K-Omega. There is no retirement from that state. There is no amnestic, no death, no reality shift that removes the fact that you were the mind that held the whole pattern at once. The anomalies will recognize you as their only complete audience. You will become the fixed point their stories can orbit.

That is what gives you the right to move them on the board. That is what gives them the right to move around you.

You will not speak of NAR-K-Omega to any subordinate, not even in hints or metaphors. You will not acknowledge their existence to the Ethics Committee. You will not brief the Council outside the minimal statistical aggregates we already receive.

We are telling you that some stories are too dangerous to share with thirteen people. We are telling you that you will carry them alone.

You will either refuse to open those files and accept what you lose. Or you will open them and accept what you become.

Both outcomes are acceptable to the Foundation.

O5 Directive: Insulation and Starvation Protocol for the Director

Addendum from O5-10:

The position you now hold is a terrible one. We know exactly what we are asking of you. We acknowledge the sacrifice. We can spare you no sympathy. Sympathy creates arcs. Arcs are forbidden.

Once you become a Narrative Locus, you never stop being one. Even if you are removed from office, even if we strip your memories down to bare scaffolding, even if your body is destroyed and your name is erased, the fact that you once held the full pattern is now part of the universe. It will be used by anything capable of using it.

These precautions exist to starve stories of the material they need to form around you. They are brutal because anything less would be decorative.

The moment you open the first NAR-K-Omega case file, the following regulations activate and remain in force until your death. They are not negotiable. They are not subject to Ethics Committee veto.

If a narrative can be built around you, it will be. The only way to lead NHOD while aware of NAR-K-Omega is to make yourself inhospitable to story. You are the bait. You are also the famine.

1. Personal Isolation

Effective immediately upon first access:
  • You will sever all ongoing personal relationships that are not strictly operational.
  • You will not enter marriage, partnership, or any acknowledged romantic bond.
  • You will not act as a parent, legal guardian, or declared mentor in any capacity outside controlled training programs.
  • Existing family and partners will receive plausible separation narratives and, where required, amnestic intervention. They will forget you in the only way that matters: you will no longer be part of their story.
You are not permitted to be a spouse, a lover, a parent, a best friend, or anyone’s most important person. Those are narrative roles. You may not hold any of them.

2. Social and Operational Contact

  • You will appear in person only when absolutely necessary and only within pre-cleared secure zones.
  • Routine interaction will occur through intermediaries, anonymized channels, or designated deputies whose arcs can be monitored and cut.
  • You will not attend celebrations, memorials, morale events, or ceremonies.
  • You will not be present when medals are awarded, when eulogies are spoken, or when promotions are announced.
Your presence turns events into scenes. Scenes are not allowed to form around you. You are an instruction, not a character.

3. Identity Suppression

  • Your legal and civilian identities will be terminated or buried under deep cover structures.
  • Within Foundation systems, you will be referred to by role designation only. Your name will not appear in any file outside the narrow channel that contains this directive and the NAR-K-Omega cluster.
  • No official portrait, voice sample, or biometric profile of you will exist in accessible systems. Any existing records will be scrubbed or quarantined.
A story struggles to coalesce around someone who does not exist in the record. We will ensure that, on paper, you are as close to nobody as a person in your position can be.

4. Pattern Disruption

  • Your daily schedule will be generated by an automated pattern-disruption system under RAISA oversight. You will not set your own routines except where security requires it.
  • No sequence of meetings, routes, or tasks will repeat on a regular period unless the alternative introduces higher risk.
  • You will not maintain private rituals, recurring habits, or sentimental keepsakes.
You are not allowed favorites. Not people. Not rooms. Not drinks. Not pens. Anything you consistently return to becomes a prop. Characters are defined by their props. You are not allowed to be defined.

5. Communication Control

  • All outgoing communication from you will be screened for narrative cues by systems and personnel you will never meet. Language that frames events as arcs, destinies, or climaxes will be stripped or blocked.
  • You will not keep a personal log, diary, or memoir.
  • You will not record farewell messages, emergency letters, or any file that begins with “If you are hearing this…”
  • Off-the-record conversations are forbidden. There is no off-the-record for a Narrative Locus.
Your words are not allowed to be quotable. If anyone ever cites something you said as if it carries emotional weight, we are already in trouble.

6. Exposure Limitation

  • You will not physically visit active high-grade Narrative-class hotspots once you have accessed NAR-K-Omega, except under existential emergency beyond your ability to mitigate by any other means.
  • You will observe through sensors, proxies, and filtered feeds wherever possible.
  • You will not enter the same room, field, or event space as a live Narrative-class anomaly while conscious of NAR-K-Omega, save during a formally declared omega-tier crisis.
A Narrative Locus and a Narrative-class engine sharing a scene is not an operational choice. It is the opening paragraph of an ending. That situation will only occur if the alternative is worse than any ending we can imagine.

7. Succession and Aftermath

  • You will not name or hint at a successor. You will not speak about who should take your place. You will not talk about passing a burden.
  • Upon your incapacitation or death, NAR-K-Omega access will pass via an automated selection process that does not involve your input or knowledge.
  • There will be no ceremony, no disclosure, no last will. Your tenure will end like a sentence cut off mid-word.
You are not allowed a passing of the torch. Torches are powerful symbols. We do not give the story anything it can use.

8. Enforcement

If you violate these protocols:
  • The O5 Council will remove you from office. This is not a disciplinary action. It is a containment action.
  • You will be treated as a contaminated asset, not as a fallen leader.
  • You will be subjected to maximum feasible amnestic treatment and cognitive restructuring in an attempt to sever your operational memory from NAR-K-Omega, even if that process is expected to be lethal.
  • Whether you survive or not, your next appearance in any Narrative-class event matrix will be treated as a red alert.

In addition, from the moment you breach these rules, you are considered volunteered for first deployment in the next suicide-level Narrative-class event for which a human anchor is required. You forfeited the right to refuse when you opened the files and then failed to starve the beast as instructed.

If this seems cruel, remember the alternative: a Director who knows NAR-K-Omega, who has allowed a story to take root around them, and who is permitted to continue walking through our structures like a loaded gun with its own opinion.

That is not an alternative. That is a future we will not fund.

Director, you are reading this because you already understand that your job is to prevent lives, and the Foundation itself, from being reshaped into stories that serve something else.

Once you open the drawer I have pointed you toward, your own life is taken off that table. You will live without arc, without closure, without catharsis. You will die without a scene. You will be remembered, if at all, as a designation in a sealed log and as a missing chair at a table that always has one empty seat and never explains why.

That emptiness is the shield you provide for everyone who still gets to have a story of their own.
Starve the beast. Or feed it yourself.
The Foundation accepts either outcome.
